Former
Kildavin Camogie Players, bring glitz glamour and pizazz to Talbot
Hotel.
The Talbot
Hotel Carlow resembled the venues for the Oscars, BAFTAs or IFTAs
on Saturday April 4th. The girls of Kildavin Camogie who delivered
multiple county championships and one All Ireland title during
a decade of camogie, gathered to reminisce about those glory
days. The young women brought plenty of glitz and glamour to
the venue. The dinner and dance was well attended by the girls,
their trainers and mentors and members of the wider community.
Upwards of one hundred people sat down to a sumptuous meal provided
by the four star Talbot. Tom Doyle chairman of the Veteran Players
group who organised and hosted the event reminded the large crowd
that the Veteran players exist to support community endeavour
and were open to suggestions from the audience and others. Martina
Tobin captain of the 1995 All Ireland Féile winning team,
told those assembled of the important role camogie played in
her life as a young girl and how it had truly added to her positive
experience of community and sport. Josephine Kehoe entertained
the audience with a lighter look at the serious business of winning
county and all Ireland titles. P.J Conway Chairman of Kildavin/Clonegal
GAA club paid a tribute to the Veteran Players for their contribution
to the community. P.J accepted a framed list of the players being
honoured which would be put on display in the GAA complex in
Kildavin.
The Veteran Players would like to thank the large numbers of players who attended
their trainers Mary Kehoe, D.J and Josie Byrne and Joe Roberts. Frances Whelan
attended on behalf of her late husband Eamonn, Thanks is also extended to members
of the wider community, the speakers, the hotel, the D.J Jimmy Murray, Kildavin/Clonegal
GAA Club and those who generously provided sponsorship of the event; all contributed
to a wonderful night.
